Need a toy, cheap to buy and run

Seem like i am in the market for another car (not unusual i go through 5 or 6 each year), but now i like 4x4s, its a lot funner...
My wife is gonna drive my 99NL Pajero, sell her POS VT wagon, buy a delivery van (we need for our business) and i will spend 4 or 5 on a povo 4x4 just for putting around to and from work, and some play time.
I would like to hunt and hunt till i find an older, good nick TD with heaps of kits already installed. I kinda want something i can buy and go out bush without too much extras needed...
Are there any models specifcially i should stay clear of? Or thing i really need to look out for?
