Hi all I am trying to help a friend out with some info about swaping the standard 4 speed for something better (ie so it wont rev its tits out at 100km/h)
Has any one done a conversion or can lead me in the right direction

Thanks

Andrew

i have heard about people putting autos into them but some say they had a problem with the length of the auto and the cj being to short, while others say there was no problem at all,

if you do a search over at www.ausjeepoffroad.com or www.pirate4x4.com you should be able to find out some specifics on it ;)

Do you want Auto or manual?
What CJ?

Probably the BEST manual tranny would be a NV4500, but it's no cheap (nor small nor light) option.
Length will be your biggest issue unless you have a CJ6 or 8.

Have you considered an Aut might be a touch shorter to fit....

thanks heaps for all the help this will give me and my mate a heap to go through.
At the moment he wants to try and get a manual (i'm trying to convince him otherwise, auto's seem easier to get)

thanks

depends on which 4 speed he has ? There was several options in CJ's

If it is not the T4 ie it is either T176 or T18 then consider keeping the 4 speed and swap the diff ratios to get the highway cruise rev's desired

you can make up for the gears off road with gears for the transfer case depending what transfer case you have

It would really help us if you said what type of CJ and year
