Now the CV's are apart whats the go with the clips

When you get a new CV do you get the spring clip at the end of the axel as well coz when it seperated it got all bent. If you do get a new 1, how do you get the CV on without stuffing it?

the clip is designed to break when you pull it apart, so you need to get a new one. do you have a manual?

I run longfields and use the martac method.
I guess you could martac them, and not use the clip. I aint sure if anyone has done this for a standard CV or if its even worthwhile?

most come with a new clip put it on
and slide the CV onto the axel it
wont damage it going on only off.

You should get a new clip with the new CV. Fit the clip to the axle and with the freshly packed CV in a vice line the spline of the axle up with the spline in the CV then use a small flat blade screwdriver to push in the clip while maintaining downward pressure on the axle. Eventually the clip will be pushed in enough all the way round for the axle to fall in.

definatly do a mar tack you can tell by the markings on the axels where to do the tacks,then find a circlip that has the two eyes to replace the outer clip that holds the hub onto the cv making next cv(ect) change easier.

Martack is a tack weld first pioneered by Marlin Cjakowski (of Marlin Crawler fame) to keep the inner axle from going into the CV too far:

It should be noted that Marlin C. himself is no longer recommending the Martack. I can't remember his reason, something about weakening the splines in the area . . .
However with certain kinds of locking diff centres you can run without the clips or a Martack as the axle shaft is prevented from going in any farther. I have factory locking diffs and I haven't run an inner CV retaining clip for years.

its to stop the inner axle going into the third member,and also a good idea if you break an inner aswell
