Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Tomorrow I'm chasing brake pads for my SWB Paj with 33" tyres. It was originally designed for 30" tyres, so I'm a little concerned about the extra work I'm asking of the brakes, and want something a little above average. I'm thinking of Bendix 4WD pads, unless somebody can convince me otherwise.

I bought em and was very happy with them

I've got the Bendix 4WD pads on my LWB Paj with 33's and they work well Scott.

I had bendix 4x4 pads and found they glazed the discs. Contacted the manufacturer and they did not recommend them for heavy off road use in a auto. Switched to Bendix metal kings and never looked back. They are a bit average for the first couple of stops in the morning until they warm up.

I may be wrong bro........but im not sure that simply changing the pads will give u any extra stopping power.

By all means use the 4wd ones........I have no idea what its supposed to be about them that make them any better.......maybe thicker????

I cant see that they would use any different compound as if its better at pulling u up then they would use it in normal ones as well.

I also doubt that simply changing the tyres size up would mean u would require extra stopping power.......... possibly opposite actually.

You would not be significantly increasing the weight of the vehicle and the speed you can get to will not be significantly increased.......

Im happy to stand corrected though.

One thing that I consider important is to pay a little more to ensure i dont get those damn squeaky ones.

But apart from how long they last and lack of squeal........I cant see how any pad can be different or better?

Top cat, the larger the wheel the more leverage the road has on the brakes. Therefore it takes more to stop the car. There are significant differences in the braking power of brake pads, but most have their advantages and disadvantages. Usually the better stopping pads do not last as long. There are ones that handle extreme heat (through excessive use of brakes) better, but are lousy when cold, and visa versa. It is just a matter of finding the one that best suits your driving.

hmmmm..........yeah ur right about the extra force.........funny, I didnt think about that.........Not having had the bigger tyres........is it really significant???

Have run the bendix 4x4 pads before, and had no complaints bout them.
Another thing with running bigger tyres, exp more aggresive style with more rubber the the weight. The standard brakes are being asked to stop a much larger rotational mass, so any imporvement in brakes is always a good thing.

I picked up the pads this afternoon - a little pricey, but I think I'm becoming numb...

Now, if I could just get the b******s in!

Sure they are a good pad but I think you'll find your rotors won't last as long. It would be intresting to measure them now and when you have to do your next pad change.

Remember, the better your brakes feel the quicker your rotors or pads are going!

Mq080, I have the metal kings on for around 5 years. There is no noticable wear on the discs.

thats why when you get larger than 15mm increase in tyre size hear in vic they need to be engineer approved its a simple a a brake test with over 70% brake efficeincy what happen after your brakes wear is anybodies guess

I'm only speaking from my experience with metal kings, that's why I said it would be interesting (for at least me) if you get the measurements on yours now and later so it can be compaired to other trucks. Either I stand corrected or you drive like a grandma... Hmmm are you sure you don't shop with a basket?
