Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Yep we finally did it, we gave the 80 its first ever taste of mud on the weekend but the best thing was my wife did it she had it in low range 2nd gear and hand it hitting 5000rpm


But not only that she was going can I nail it now? now??? what about now? In the end I said honey give it some loven, well she did

Then after the mud we went on a track that realy needs lockers, but we did it anyway, had to reverse a few times and change lines but we got it complete with wheels in the air the best bit of this track was the wife saying "thats it, its time we got diff locks in this thing"

Man I love my wife ATM

Oh and I had fun being in a back to basics 4x4 again with no diff locks and no winch, realy makes you think again after having had front and rear locks for about 6 years like in the lux.

Yes the first time I guided the Jabber over that damned Safeway gutter with only the rear difflock engaged it was a real special achievement.
Hopefully after Cheezy's finished I will reach the Holey Grail = to get over that friggin gutter open diffed

With 6 MQ's to choose from I usually take the most modded rig for a run, but like you said ...... "back to basics 4x4" is a real eye opener !.
I love takin out "Yella", dead stock SD33, on 31" duelers ( nearly bald ! ), and a 20+year saggin suspension leaving stuff all travel and clearance.

You really HAVE to THINK about the line you are going to drive and I have found that driving one of the std patrols makes life SO much easier when ya jump in behind the wheel of a modded rig......

makes ya wonder if its us that improve as drivers or the rig that improves....
I think in many cases its a "dollars" answer..... do I really need those lockers ????

If you got up no lockers then why are you saying that you really need lockers for the track?

I didnt say "I needed lockers", I was asking if I really do need to fit lockers.....
& thats sort of the point I was making, we fit all these gizmos yet "OUR ABILITY" doesnt really improve @ the same rate, it's the rig that does.

We spend heaps of time and dollars building up a rig to drive harder obsticles, once that feat is surpassed we spend more dollars to drive the next tougher level, yet we as drivers still only do the steering....
Its not untill we drive a stocky again on the same obsticle that one really appreciates the tech side of driving...... its back to basics.

For example ........
given a stock V8 ford or commodore you couldnt drive Bathurst any where near as quick as Brock or Johnson.....
Given $300,000 to spend on the car then youd obviously be a lot quicker yet still not quite "up there" in comparison, only time behind the wheel and natural ability would gain those last couple of vital seconds

given the same dollar ratio to blow on a 4x4, driving the "Soup bowl" would be as challenging as a speed hump @ KFC, if you have the ability to match the rig that is

Yep, in certain circles lockers are essential, but for the most part, you can still have a lot of fun in an open rig...

hear hear.... I love mine now, as it stands. The traction from swampers, that little bit of extra height under the diffs and chassis, and I am driving stuff more comfortably. Still challenging enough for the moment, as we cant afford to break the thing. I enjoy the time out behind the wheel, and I dont need lockers yet.

Anyway, this went way off track.

Ya true since I got up without lockers you don`t reealy need them to do the track, but it was with a lot of work that I got up it. If I had of had locks then I wouldn`t have had to do 1 reverse and wouldn`t have been stopped once, it would have been a walk in the park so to speak.
