Buying new GU 3L..negotiating with Nissan on aftermarket....

I'm trying to decide whether I can afford to buy a new Patrol next year instead of second hand.

Has anyone managed to negotiate with Nissan to get decent tyres, aftermarket suspension fitted on a new vehicle instead of the stock gear? I mean they would be saving on the tyres I don't want and the stock suspension can be fitted to another vehicle.......do you reckon I would be able to get a reduction on the cost of the after market gear using that argument???

thanx,

Martin

Dealers will fit anything legal if you pay them. If there are warranty implications then you may have to sign something.

Most people drive straight from the dealer to the local tyre store or accessory shop and get everything done there. Why pay the dealer a margin on top of retail prices? Having said that, the way I did it was to shop around until I had the best price on a standard vehicle and then negotiated with that dealer for the extras.

Always know the best prices you can get the accessories/tyres for before negotiating with the dealer.

Hope this helps

Why not the TD 4.2. Even if you have to get one with a little extra KM's.

But, if you had the choice, what engine would you like them to fit, the 3ltr  , or the 4.2

morkz, yeah thats the kind of thing im looking for, thanx it helps...

others......the 3L/4.2L debate could run for ever I think! Points taken though.......hard to make the decision!

can't wait to get a patrol.......at least then my cape york trip will be in comfort.....don't fancy that trip in the defender!

ok, if it's a shopping trolley, settle for the 3 litre...
If it will be used off road get the 4.2...alot better!

I bought a coil cab new in 2002 from Ferntree Gully Nissan near Melb. Came with front locker, koni's, ARB bar and rails, winch, compressor etc. No problem. For $80 you can get a flight down and drive home!!! I paid about $53k on the road includeing extras which was rec retail for the truck at the time.

Theres a reason for that.. you pay for what you get.

Poor people cant afford cheap things.

I dont understand why your going to the 3l you had defender, arent u going to a patrol for reliability.

If your going bush go the 4.2 in the end it will be cheaper as 3L parts are more expensive.

the reason why i say all this i had disco and yes they were fine around town but pure reliablity was the main cause and it ruinied many trips. Thats why it was easier to choose a 4.2.

Even if you buy GU 4.2 non turbo and turbo it yourself you would be better.

Not for highway use........that sounds promising.....thats what I'm looking for a good deal on the whole package.

Morkz........I'm changing to a Patrol for reliablility and comfort. So many people are putting me off the 3L.... I guess I just like the 3L on paper, but you're right I want a solid reliable truck that I can keep for 10 years or so....

One of my biggest gripes with the defender is the throttle surge....very hard to control at low speed....I want to be rid of that for sure

So 4.2L.......mmmm.....I can see the arguments....

oh u will.........

when u go away with mates and they have 3L and the 3L start to shit themselves you'll be thankful that you have the 4.2

There is also a very good reason why the cab chassis' only come with the 4.2L. Thats because it's a reliable work horse of an engine. :D

One thing to keep in mind is that you pay stamp duty on the total invoice price. If you get a good deal on the accessories you want then no problem. But the usual dealer stuff like tinting, paint and fabric protection, crap accessories etc which is just cream for them is a ripoff.
