Have just read all the posts concerning replacement seats, and had a couple of questions specific to shorties...

Are the front seats interchangeable with LWB's, or are they different to allow for the extra sliding for access to the rear.. if they are different, anyone know what other seats can be placed in the shorty ?

I rang up a few wreckers about Ti seats, very hard to come by and are expensive, and may not even work anyway.

Got me thinking though, what are the seats like in the SWB Safaris? Anyone have any pics?

Ive had a quote to repack and re face (existing vinyl sides and backing stays) my existing seats, about $450 all up for front and back, which I think is pretty reasonable, then at least the front and rears will match.

If I want it in leather though, will probably be about $1500+

So at the moment, option is to get existing ones fixed up and reclothed.

mate i had the same problem my SWB had stuffed seasts (still has). After looking around researching things this is wehat i come up with. The import shorties normally have the same seats in them but normally brown in colour. At any wreckers the seats are high priced and gone quick. The only option you really have is to go aftermarket or pull some out of a sport car. I bought some Aerotech's of this forum from queenslands and am getting them sent to WA fro $120. There is a set of shortie seats for sale on here i seen the other day. The other option is search the wreckers for sports ones then you have to fab up the rails and frames and i don't have the time to do that. Is yours a TD42 shorty?? another shorty in WA, might have to catch up for a drive.

I have short wheel base seats from an xlt mav in my long wheel base mav and they fit no problems. Can't see why they would be any different. They occasionally come up in the for sale section.

There are no differences but i think the SWB seats may go forward a couple more inches

The seats in my safari are the same as patrols except they're a crappy brown colour instead of grey

the front passanger side seat is different from shorty to longy..front seat needs to slide and tilt further in the shorty..plus the shorty seat has a pull cord to tilt and slide from the back seat.

i have the shorty seats for sale.. top nick..as new. full set all working perfect. would be the shittest job in the world to fab up brackets and adaptor plates etc...just buy these..

Keep in mind that if you entend to fab up different brackets and stuff with aftermarket seats you will then need to go through the hassle of getting a mod plate for them, my old boy went that way and it was a pain in the arse. Just buy viperguys if they're in good nick and rebolster them to give a bit more support, save you a lot of mucking around.

wont be getting aftermarket seats, would rather get mine repacked and trimmed...

i would totally agree..just retrim ur seats.

There is also another slight variation the SWB seat (pass) sits about 1" further forwards on the rails. So there is leg room for the front seat passenger. Atleast that is what the seats are like in my 89SWB. My drivers one got the arse and is replaced by a Aerotech seat. Which is great for those long drives.
