perhaps its a sill question but Im not exactly sure how they work. Can you use synthetic winch rope with a turfer?
Thanks

no. mine uses a steel cable, if it was synthetic the gripping jaws would tear/shred it to pieces.
handy bit of gear though and got me out of trouble many times but bloody hard work

No, definately not. Tirfors, of whichever size you have, and the many different copies out there now (since the original patent expired) must be used with the original wire rope, or an exact duplicate. They work by alternately gripping the rope between 2 sets of jaws. As previously stated, not only would these rip the rope to shreds, but you would not be able to get the rope loaded into the winch in the first place.

thankyou I assumed as much but wanted to check anyhow Its an old one very big and weighs a ton. I reckon it wouldnt be too hard to winch a zook with one though.
