ok now ive found the hand throttle usefull for a few things
cruise control on the freeway and for using with the onboard aircompressor but other than that whats its real purpose ???

If you're a jeeper or regeared zook a HT can stop you humping the hill when you foot bounces on the go pedal if your throttle return spring is too light.

Is just a new bike shifter (attached to your gear stick), cable and connectors. Cheap to make yourself if you can find all the bits. Have plenty in stock.

In a diesel, with the hand throttle a bit over idle, you can traverse rough ground sloiwly, without your foot bouncing on the throttle.

okay sounds interesting but whats the use in a fj40 landcruiser on lpg/petrol

also thinking about it ive used it for a serious hill start use the hand throttle to get it around 1500rpm so i can have 1 foot on the brake and 1 on the clutch

PTO winches.

I use mine all the time on the 40 (petrol) for more control of clutch and brake. Really handy on steep rutted out climbs that would see you jabbing the accelerator every time you go over a big rock or rut.

I use the hand throttle to raise idle when warming up the diesel (HJ47 Troopy) - have wheeled much in it yet, but i have noticed it can leap-frog a bit on slow going - might try using it next time out.

handy when doing big burnouts in the patrol. you wouldnt use it for that purpose being a fj 40 of course

i found it useful going from brisbane to melbourne over long stretches.. gave my foot a chance to stretch during extended periods of driving..
can't say ive used it when trying to go slow..

sounds painfull is what that sounds like i drove to geelong and back that was far enough for me lol

it was alright until about halfway between bne and syd when my roof lifted a bit and the seal above the windscreen popped.. there wasnt any bolts up there from the previous owner.. then it became a pretty noisy trip all the way down to melb.. glad it only took 2 days to get there.. ( btw.. we did the high country on the way back! )

but back on topic.. i found that the hand throttle would keep my speed somewhere between 100-115km's depending on the headwind at the time.

i have considered using the handthrottle to crawl creeks but the thought of not having total control still freaks me out a bit. sure you could clutch in and slam the throttle off but id rather just back off the accelorator..

i have idled up creeks in 1st low and my mates spotting couldnt keep up so maybe i just need a lower low..

well the recaro's helped and the girlfriend flew down to melb... (read: comfort and no whinging) it sounded like my best option at the time..

The Hilux had a good H/T .The 40 has a crap one.It goes from 650rpm to 1500 rpm. Nothing between. You cant set it for EASY .Just go or whoa!
I dont Know if a Hilux one would fit *( a future project) but I would suggest the use of one.

rotate the hand throttle around and you can get smaller ajustments

works on mine theres like 1 spot where its really clicky and catches then if you rotate the handle its much better

get what i mean ??

I have tried that ,but it didnt seem to do anything.*( I use it every day to walk my dogs) I'll try it again though.Maybe I wasnt carefull enough.But the Hilux 's could be used as a cruise control. *(Yeah --I know...But Darwin to Adelaide In a 2.2 diesel. ....MAAATE!! *(3 times) AYE Carumba!!

One trick i have seen is where you park the bullbar up against a large immovable object in front of some grass, such as a tree, wall or an F250.

Wind up the throttle and let the clutch go and the vehicle will push up against the object whilst digging trenches with the tyres. This allows you get out of the vehicle and walk away while it does its own thing.

Kinda silly and a tad dangerous, especially if it pushed over the object and drove off. Not really an everyday use for the hand throttle, but a cool one anyway.

i use mine to increase the idle revs on cold morning/when runinng the aircon so so its not soo sluggish off the line.

Its primary purpose would be for better throttle control off road then things are really bumpy and u risk your foot jumping off the pedal etc.

I havent tried it as cruise control yet...

i drive warnambool to melbourne twice a week in mine. mornington peninsular (vic) to the york peninsular (SA) is my longest trip in the 40. i don;t know what all you old fogies are talkin about, uncomfortable???

just be really carefull if your using it as a cruise control! Sounds pretty dangerous to me! I once used it whilst tirforing out of a bog by myself. But it made things worse by digging in.

BINGO this is the best use of all...I use mine all the time in really hairy situations and on big side slopes when you need to stop/take a differant line

ive used mine to flush my radiator >_<

at 1500revs she heats up quicker
