Recently Toyota upgraded the Petrol Prado with a new 5 speed Auto transmission and bigger brake booster and a couple of other things.
Does anyone know what, if anything is happening with the Prado diesel ?
I have heard rumours of a new diesel engine in March next year to coincide with the release of the new Hiliux, anyone know if the Prado is going to get the 5 speed Auto or anything else, or if the rumour of the new diesel motor is even true ?

PS according to the December overlander magazine, the new Hilux is not going to have any of the electronic traction control (EBD) or any of the gucci features that make the prado good...?

there is a 1KD-TE engine (3 litre DIRECT injected turbo diesel) in (I believe) Japanese Prados, has been for some time, perhaps they are going to start selling that engine over here? I can only guess that it would have similar specs to the patrol 3 litre ZD30. Maybe they will go common rail? really don't know. but if they can keep selling them in big numbers, why would they bother changing them that much?

cheers

From what i hear its possibly 1st half next year, it will come, just a mater of when.

I know most people proberbly dont want to hear about it if your looking at an oil burner but the 4.0l petrol is a cracker of a vehicle, better in the 5 speed than 4 speed.
But what i was getting to is a lot of guys get them as lease cars where i work and all are getting very good economy ! best 4wd petrol in the medium / large class by a long way. (Much better than other comparable vehicles like ford territory)
