first car deliemas

g'day guys,
lately i have been faced with quite a deliama. i have to decide what my first car i am going to buy. i have decided i want a swb soft top. i have looked at several sierras and vitaras but seem a bit expernsive for the km's, year and condition. latly i have searched for other alternitives eg forozas, old jeeps and cruisers and asia rocstas which leads me to the point. i have found a rocsta in sydney 1994, 130kms, new wheels and heaps of accesories for $4500, which sounds very got compared to sierras of that price. has any one had any experience with with rocstas, they look good beside the dicky bumper which can be fixed by a custom front bar. i only plan to put a suspension lift and bigger tyres, not to hardcore just to help it a bit and mke it look the goods. any advice you guys could give would be awesome.

Rockstas are cheap crap.. neighbour had one, it literally fell apart..
Keep looking, and just wait, something will come up when you least expect it.. Buy what you want, not what you can afford.
poor people cant afford cheap things.

Sierra is what you want. There are cheap ones out there, easy to modify, lots of aftermarket support them and very strong and reliable.
The Rocsta could be a good base for a custom rig but only if you were a fabricator and knew how to make and merge custom parts

Is there a reason you're not looking at the soft-top Paj imports - commonly referred to as J-Tops? I know I'll get heaps of responses offering reasons why you shouldn't (

in anticipation) but for what you've described I think they'd be a good solution - larger and more powerful than Vitara and will take 33s without as many problems. (

again...) If you get bitten there's lockers front and rear, crawler gears, SAS...

as nj swb said a paj is good - looks alright & a few more luxuries than the others.. and good 1st 4by to learn things. just expensive to break.
have you considered something like a 40 series?

One of the best decisions I made was buying a sierra for a first car. Very easy to learn in, lots of visability, cheap to run, cheap to fix, easy to fix. Whats more cops never look twice at you. you will find a good one but because they are not very common it may take a few weeks of buying the trader etc.
Oh yea and they never get stuck, unless your being silly

thx fellas, my dads got a paj wagon its awesome, in the new shape they are 2 exy for me, bout 8g's for a cheap one. the problem is im to fussy i want a car in good nick, little to no offroad, no rust, and not extreame amounts of k's. im thinking of a vitara because i have travelled in sierras and that wouldn't help when i have got to travel to brisbane and back every weekend from the sunshine coast.

yeah look for a vit. Plenty of them only do the car park trails never offroad and they are pretty cheap to buy, run, rego, insure and fix

I wouldnt by a 350 chev for my 1st car(well i might have if i was earning lotsa money and lived close to work when i was 17) id go a zook i got my zook for $5000 92 mod 80000ks and in 2 years ive only had to change the spark plugs and leads, thats with me driving it i hurt it bad i rev if of the gauge though it humms at redline nice. also rocsta's came with 2L mazda motors there hell strong i had a 626 for my 1st car i use to sit in the tafe carpark with the handbrake on frying the front tyre's, blew out the cv's and went through a few sets of tyres b4 the big end's went in it(it had 380000ks on the clock and still lasted 2 1/2 years of my driving). Though ive never driven a rocsta dunno how good they are everything else on them might be crap.

we all start out just wantiing a suspension lift but as tiem goes on that wish list will grow. you can find cheap sierra's around you just need to wait. igot a 95 hard top sierra with 110,000km's on the clock i couldn't find a spot of rust for $5300, so they do exist and it is true you carn't really kill them.

Yea definatly buy a zook. I dunno if its coz i am a Jeep owner but i think Rocsta's are TERRIBLE. They look like crap too (got all their dimensions wrong) and if at first you wanna make your car look good, then a Rocsta is NOT what you want.

i was told that rocstas were pressed of exact panel mouldings of the old jeep...

Zook was (is) my first 4b, never looked back. Goes hard, goes far (for a stocko), haven't had a problem with parts yet.

Pretty sure that isnt correct. I could be wrong tho. But just stand an old CJ5 or CJ7 next to a Rocsta and tell me which one looks better.

throw a 40 series cruiser in there and i may finally have a choice worth considering
