I was offered a Bundera with a Detroit locker so I assume they fit but I was warned strongly by my mechanic who knows diffs intimately not to get the vehicle (because of the Detroit Locker) - uncertain / unpredicable handling characteristics amongst other things.

early bunderas have a 2 spider diff like hiluxes, I think after 1988 (??) they went to the V6 style with limited slip. check the axle code on the build plate, if it ends in 4 or 5 it is 4 spider (4) or 4 spider limited slip (5). If it is a 2, it is the smaller 2 spider diff, and you don't want it.
as for the EZ locker, I'd stay away from it, especially in a shorty. even though the cross shaft (4 spider) ones are a lot better, save up for an air locker. once you add in the cost of installation etc it really doesn't cost that much more to get the good gear first time.

My old one had a 5 with a detroit locker in the rear and I have not had any problems with it and it works well on and offroad.

the full detroit is a different animal to the ez locker, a whole world better, but there's no way you'd go back after having air lockers is there?
how's my bomb going?
cheers
