Well Im going to chuck a turbo on the lux what are peoples thoughts on brands of turbo kit?
The DTS kit (now called MTQ) has a Mitsubishi turbo.

The AXT kit has a garret turbo.

I think a few people on here have the DTS kit and like it does anyone here run the AXT kit?
Interested in hearing from people that have them what they think.
Will be fitting just the standard kit for now but later looking at intercooling and upping the boost

I had the mitsi turbo on my 2.8, I found it very good for wheeling and towing as it only has a small turbine in it, so it would start boosting around 1100rpm from memory. Plus it is water cooled.

When i was going to turbo my Hilux i rand around and sent emails off and the most helpful people where berrima turbo .I do remember them saying that a intercooler would not be of any help and was a waste of money and fuel.?????I wanted the system mainly for towing my bike around.
Also talked to turboglide in wollongong at the maitland 4x4 show and there kit seemed to have a lot more then berrima`s but was a lot cheaper.
Another thing every turbo place i`ve spoken to says you dont need a timer.

but are happy to fit one for extra.
But really need to compare what each company is offering.
I never got the turbo managed to get a big fine

or at least paid the cost of the bar for there ball i think

I got my turbo done by Berrima Diesel, they did a pretty good job. I was also under the impression when i got it done (a bit over a year ago) that they thought an intercooler was a waste. I think what they mean is that the extra power achieved with an intercooler doesnt really weigh up to the cost (if your going brand new that is). I called them a few weeks back to get some advice on an intercooler and Reinhard i think it was said sure go for it, go to a ricer shop cos they are the experts on this kind of thing (i was enquiring about a front mount cooler which i have decided not to get, probably will get a top mount 2nd hand Paj intercooler or something along those lines, much cheaper) and that they dont install intercoolers themselves.
The advice they gave me regarding timers, was yes you dont need one. The turbo i have (Mitsubishi TD04) is water cooled, all he said was just dont drive on the highway for an hour at 3000rpm+ and then shut it off straight away, i dont live on the freeway so buy the time i get home its cool enough to turn off. You could get the timer as a safe guard if you really want to, but i dont think its a necessity.

a mate's got the DTS mitsu turbo on his 80 series.... he actually did the install himself and they just tested and tuned the thing, saved him a few bucks.
works very well, hasn't had any drama's with it... good boost from fairly low down, truck loads more power

I had my 100 series done by AXT and it was a big mistake. Power was very ordinary, boost came in to high in the revs, exaust kept hitting the floor and very difficult to deal with. I took the vehicle to JPC and Mark changed a few things on the turbo, tuned it on the dyno and it came out a transformed vehicle.
If I was you go for the DTS unit, they have years of expereince and people I have spoken to who have their units are very happy.
