MWB under $8000 (adding turbo to 3b engine)

Hi All,
Well the last MWB ($13k japanese import) had its chassis filled with rust, crumbling shackles and collapsed suspension. Best $185 on a check I ever spent - It's at E & M Unique Motors on parramatta road, so be forewarned
Looking at another one now, a 1985 for just under $8k, manual diesel non turbo local model. It's got a few small bits of body rust that have been repaired (with metal so the owner says). It's had the injectors serviced in 2001, it's nice and clean inside, the tyres have plenty of tread, just had all the suspension leaves replaced. Current owner has had it 4 years. It's got aboout 347000k on the odometer.
It drives pretty nicely, a bit truck-like, but then it's a truck. Steering is nice however.
Can anyone comment on what the situation is with MWBs and rust - for that much given how many kms it's got would I perhaps be better looking for a 40 series? It's under my budget so I can afford to get any rust issues fixed provided they're not structural.
Second gear is pretty weak, especially if starting on a hill - is that normal? I'm wondering how much it would cost to add a turbo, and if that would improve things.
Any thoughts anyone?
Cheers
Matt
