Hilux Opinions ??

Im looking at buying a early to late 80's duel cab hilux ,
i dont really know the good and bad pionts of hiluxes of those years regarding which model is best and was there any big changes to stay away from or something in particular that was better ??
Also would you go for a turbo diesel , diesel or petrol / gas ???
and the $$$ im loooking at spending is about $6,500 Grand,

All the 80's models are pretty much the same driveline apart from little differences.

diff ratio's
engine size
4sp or 5sp gearbox


I think the latest model(5speed)diesel you can afford would be a good starting point...

80 to sept 83 have either 18R 2 litre petrol or a L 2.2 litre diesel and both have a 4 speed gearbox
83 to aug 88 have either a 3Y 2 litre a 4Y 2.2 litre petrol or a 2L 2.4 litre diesel engine all have a 5 speed gearbox . The cab is also about 100 mm longer giving you more leg room

do ur best to get a 2.8d if u do the 2.4 is slower than the already slow 2.8

if u can find a turbo in good nic go for it!
should get a neat late 80's... late 88 was the new shape ifd u can get one after then they just a bit nicer :)
