Drivers side snorkle for GU

I've got the factory snorkle on the passenger side and I'm upgrading my turbo and engine. The factory snorkle is a safari basically and I'd like to have dual snorkles. Does anyone know of a drivers side snorkle for the GU that will match the factory snorkle or a pair of snorkles where the left one can use the same hole as the factory snorkle?

Just had a look at the airtek snorkles and they are completely different to mine. I've got a 01 GU ST Cab Chassis and it has a snorkle that is very similar to a safari whereas it enters the guard in front of the wheel arch rather than behind like the airteks. Guess I'll have to rig something up myself.

get rid of it and get some ally tube and truck rubber bends hole thing for under $100 and it can flow as much as you like - 3, 31/2, 4" that way its only one guard you are cutting and under the hood is much neater as its not all pipes and such.

i think kym bolton used a gu and a 80 series airteks on his.
not exactly a perfect fit though.

Cheers shane, I saw that. Thats what gave me the idea. Matt Bolger runs his intake from a snorkle mounted on his tray roll bar and it runs through the cab under the passenger seat. PITA to make something like that so I thought I'd look at twin snorkles cause to get the kind of flow that I'm looking for I'll need to run more than what I've got and I don't want a great big tube hanging off the side of my rig to get caught on everything and get damaged all the time. The snorkles on Kym Bolton's rig look like they are different sizes as well. I guess I was hoping it would be easier. you'd think with comp scene making such a big expansion that they'd look at something like this. OH WELL guess I'd better learn plastic forging

Pretty sure Kym Bolton uses a navara snorkel.

Check his writeup in 4wd monthly. That's where I read about it....... although that mag has LOTS of mistakes in it!!!!!!

said it.. get a pr made up out of exhaust pipe... then you can also go for larger diameter....

My bad about the factory snorkel on my rig. It is an airtek. Should have gotten off my ass and had a look before posting. I'm going to wait a bit cause I'm in negotiations with a sponsor that deals mostly with truck and industrial engines so hopefully I'll get some good gear from them.

Tell me how the @#%$ twin snorkels would have prevented this situation?

Would you lose much airflow running the snorkel under the passenger seat and out the back. Thats a lot of piping for the intake to flow through.

Not if you know what you are doing and how to do it. The ducting through the cab is 32% larger in surface area than 4" pipe in the engine bay. This allows for possible restriction in distance between the inlet and air cleaner and the bends in the ducting. On paper this is more than enough. If anything it is overengineered and there is absolutely no loss of airflow to the engine with this set up when tested on the dyno with and without the ducting. Yes it was a pita to make and took me many hours but it is done right and built for the job not bought.

hey i reckon you should probably go stainless steel

alot comp guys are doing as the standard snorkles are just not letting enough air in and some are picking up some power by taking off the air ram as well....... just a thought have look at birdys GQ cassar's GQ, Chunks GU diesel UTE many of them all have stainless steel

Just an interesting use of the snorkel V8 :D It's an awsome pic. Must of been a PITA that it took you over 3 hours to sort it afterwards though. Hope I don't end up being the new submarine next year.

Did they get that yellow GU ute going again?

I see that the air intake is still above water level there but did any water get into the engine at all and did it keep competing?

ok lets just set this comflict of intrest straight.... matty bolger's yellow terra gu ute has a CUSTOM BUILT SNORKEL made from a large model donaldson air cleaner, truck size snorkel intake and stainless 4' pipe the intake runs thru into the cab along the passenger side floor and into the engine bay......... matt has put alot of time and effort into this and yeah it might be a PITA but if thats what keeps the air free flowing to the turbo well its well worth it if ya ask me it wood have to be one of if not the most important part to a competiton 4x4 as its the "make or brake" accessory (apart from the donk)

tuff nut .... please explain how you are gonna get a standard snorkel or 2 for that matter to flow better then this already tested custom unit it will flow alot more air then what the motor needs any way plus your standard dule snorkels will only be at roof hieght where matts is about 2 inches taller which can makee all the difference when you end up in deep water plus if you find ya self in matts situation no matter what one of ya snorkels will be well under water..... iwill be keen to see what ya come up with

question? is this gu nissan purely gonna be a comp truck? cos id like to know how ya gonna keep this thing street legal as a daily driver if ya intend it to be one?

For starters I know that Matt has put a lot of time and a whole lot more effort into his truck and has come out with a f@#$%^g awsome machine that is well sorted. I never said that dual "bought" snorkels would flow more than his custom setup. I did say that I'm looking for more airflow than a normal single snorkel and after talking to Matt it is too big a job for me to do something similar to his because I don't have the knowhow or time or money and I'm going to keep the ute as a daily driver as well by changing the tray and wheels to make it more useful for touring and daily driving. I put the picture in this thread purely as an awsome pic so "SORRY" to anyone who got the wrong idea. and yes dieseldude after a lot of hard yards they did get it going and continued competing. So well done to Matt and Cam.
