Hilux diff questions

Subject vehicle: 93 hilux 4x4
Is the front diff centre the same as the rear diff centre? Also, are the ratio's the same?
Only replies from people who actually know for sure thanks!
Reason for question is the front diff has blown and actually pushed out one of the cogs through the housing.
Cheers.

the ratios should always be the same unless someone has done the bodgy and swaped it over but factory yes they are the same from memory it will be a 4.35

If your ratios were not the same then you would have some serious issues when driving in 4x4. Think about it.

Firstly is it a solid front axle or Independant?
If its solid axle then yes both ratios are the same from factory and both front and rear are interchangable. If its Independant then they will be the ssame ratio but are not interchangable front to rear.
If its deisel it will be a 4.375 ratio. If its petrol it will be a 4.88 ratio.
Can source a bolt in replacement for the petrol ratio from any petrol 4x4 hilux from Very late 83 through to 96.
If its deisel then any late 88 through till 96 hilux deisel will run the same ratio.

Q: if they are they same then why does it take 2 different lockers???
They are definatly the same ratio - as said in 4wd think about it (gearbox wind up)
A: i think the std front has smaller bearings hence the different locker saga. They can have bigger bearings put in then the lockers become interchangeable F to R but wether or not this means the actual housing is interchangable is a different story. I think they are but it would be worth a very close check.

They have to be the same ratio but I didn't think they were interchangable. Landcruisers are but I am pretty sure that lux's weren't.
See if you can scam a whole one from a wrecker or re-coed if you have the $$$. You pretty much need all new bit's.
I would however check where your rear diff came from if you were having issues. you might have had mixed ratios.
