Swapping the larger front diff into a genII 3.0 auto?

I was wondering if any one has heard of some one swapping the larger high pinion front axle into a rig equipped with the 3.o automatic.

Other than changing the CV shafts I was trying to figure out what else was involved.

The hubs are the same so that should be fine, the splines on the inner cv's aren't, those have to be changed.

What about the drive shaft, do they both share the same pinion flange, or is am I going to need to get a custom drive shaft or modify the old drive shaft to get it to bolt up.

What about the actual mounts to get the front diff installed.

I was thinking about buying a front ARB, but I just wanted to make sure I wasn't getting in over my head before I buy it. A custom drive shaft is one thing, but having to redo the frame mounts and everything else would make the project less feasible.

Thanks for any info!!!

Geezus Doug I've got NFI......................
No it's a piece of piss and a few have done this mod you need the diff housing, long side axle and the CV's. From memory I think only one extra hole has to be drilled for the chassis bracket.
I would also get the 8" diff propshaft just to be sure.
Just buy Carlo's front end off him and if you really want the 8" 4.88 HP C&P I can get these from local wreckers for around $450 Aus but they only sell the whole centre and won't separate the C&P. Why don't you just buy Carlos front and rear ends and source the 4.90's like he did ?? I'm sure he would give you a good price. Save up for the 4.90's and the front ARB locker and do the conversion all at once.
Go on just bloody do it......................
Here is a comparo pic :-

Yeah I am a pain in the ass I know. :P

I am going to talk to a couple of junkyards when I am off from school this winter (in about a week), if I can find one with a complete front end I am going to try and go through with it.

I am going to go without the 4.90's for now, because I should be able to install the arb myself, but I cant install the gears myself. All in due time. :D
