Is there any down side with using Surf gear box transfer with electric H4. Will only have 22R to start with but will be upgrading in the future hopefully a 1UZ/2UZ.
This gearbox is the R151 I believe. Do the chain drive transfers give any problem's. The 79ser Cruiser G/Box has the same front bolt pattern as the R151 box. Look the same except for rear housing and has the normal style cruiser transfer on the back. These seem to be a little unreliable.

79 series diesel (non turbo) and 105 series diesel (also non turbo) also use the R151F gearbox, as do turbo diesel bunderas. It is a much better box than the G52 in hiluxes and petrol bunderas and it will handle the V8 if you treat it with respect. If you want something more bulletproof then the H150 or H151 from 80 series' are pretty good, but a big agricultural to drive compared to the smaller boxen.

cheers
