Outer Limits 4x4 Board

what will happen is i hook up 2 speakers to one channel. like if i had a 2 channel tape deck, and instead of using just 2 speakers, i want to run 4.

obviously i wont get a front to back fade, but more importantly, the less obvious. the tape deck is rated to about 35w max at 4ohm. rms is about 19 or something. i have 6" 2 way speakers, rated at about 100w max 35w rms.

will anything happen to the ohm factor, will there be more or less resistance, or will there be any unnecessary strain on components? power/current draw?

i have this half descent tape deck, and want to put speakers in the front and back of the car. but cant afford an alarm, let alone a proper kick a$$ stereo. hopefully i wont need to use this set up (if it works) for long.

The impedance will halve if you run them in parallel (down to 2 Ohms). You could also run them in series- giving 8 Ohms, but that will probably reduce the volume level too much? (that's of course assuming your speakers are 4 Ohms each?)

The ideal way to do it would be to get two 8 Ohm speakers and wire them in parallel- that will get you back to the ideal 4 Ohms. Running a lower impedance off the deck will draw more current from it, which may or may not cause problems.

Buy a cheap amp and run the speakers off that

my initial thought was to buy a 4 channel amp and run all speakers off that, then i say a 5 channel, 4 speakers and a sub. but....

i have no where to mount the amp!

the tape deck has left and right speakers only, and no pre out for an amp. there are amps that take in speaker level inputs, but i guess that solves the speaker probs.

i'm extremely tempted to just go out and fork out for a new system.

the thing is, i have a SWB soft top Vitara, no carpet, for easy cleaning (with hose) and theres always mud in my car. so i cant mount anything on the floor. even the speakers i want to mount in the doors may be a bit too low for water crossings and bog holes. oh well, will have to see how things go.

For $200.00 you can an OK one with a detachable face thing, and then you can take that bit, wich is coded and can only be used with that stereo.
my little bro got one the other day and it runs 4 speakers pretty farkin loud.

If you're worried about the speakers getting wet then just buy marine speakers (made for fitting in boats.) They should handle it no problems.

If you want to run 4 speakers and a sub you'll only need a 4 channel amp - 2 channels for the front, two for the sub - run the rears off the head unit.

Not much point in having rear speakers though, better off having a good set of splits up front (seperate woofer and tweeter) and sub hidden out back.

A good spot in a Sierra to mount an amp (small one anyway) is under the glovebox, not sure in a Vit though...

If you have a roll bar you can mount your speakers off that. Thats what we did with my mates ski boat. Also check out marine shops and web sites cause they have a large range of stereo equipment these days.

went out and got myself a new system for the Zook.
Sony MP3 head unit, 52w x 4 max,
Sony 6" 3 ways for the doors 180w,
Sony 6"x9" 3 ways for the back 250w.

all mounted in the new checker plate panels, and the soft top pumps now! dont know why i didnt do it in the 1st place, and the best thing about it, was it came to a grand total of......

......$385.00! how good is that..... and please dont tell me that i got the el cheapo versions of the sony gear, cos i already know that.
