I own two Patrols MK, one for street use (3.3 td) and one only for off road use (2.8 td), and I'm planing to put an Ford 305 V8 engine in the Patrol that I us only for off road.

And now this is my question will a tranny from a Patrol equiped with a RD28T engine survive the horse power of a V8 engine. Is the clutch strong enought. This Patrol is SOA and have 36" mud tires.

Did anybody try to make this swap before? [/img]

the RD28T gearbox is the equivalent of the 300zx gearbox - not that strong.

It may be too small as well as its alloy.

I converted my RD28T engine and gearbox for a bigger patrol TD42 with the gearbox to suit.

Pic of the compared gearboxes for u...

Id try to find a TD42 gearbox or just use a TH700 with an adapted transfer case to run behind the ford v8.

Hey TOM, I currently have my GU RD28tdi in getting a conversion to a GU TD42T engine. Did you have to move your chassis engine mounts? The guy doing mine had to move the right forward 30mm and the left back 30mm so that the TD42 could be mounted.

engine mounts were moved.. not chassis.

I used the current 2.8s engine mount on the 4.2 engine and bolted on the left side on the chassis no dramas.

the right side.. was a problem.. i put a plate behind the engine mount on the motor itself and welded the new engine mount into place and bolted it on to the chassis

Hope that helps
