Flanges

Okay :?

I'm putting the S3 I recently purchased into my zook and am having flange issues (to be expected). My lwb now has nt 3.9 diff centres and a xfer with the same flange hole spacing as the centres. Therefore the front shaft is a non issue :)

The rear shaft I think will need to be mongreled. I have the original lwb shaft with 1l ends on it and I also have a swb shaft with the right ends on it for my application. I have searched and apparently they can be removed and interchanged but can someone tell me how exactly its done  I've never done anything like that, I bought the zook to learn on

Finally the jackshaft. It has the 1l end on it. Can I remove this and change to the larger one ala the shafts :?: I realise I'll have to get one more nt flange but that is not hard :)

I don't want to remove the flanges from the xfer or anything because I don't have the tools to do it handy. It would be faaarrrrrr easier for me to swap joints :)

Thanks Mick

I'm pretty sure the u-joints are the same for WT and NT shafts. Not sure if this means that the 1.3 & 1.0 u-joints are the same.

Measure the bearing caps across the face on the 1.3 shaft and the 1.0 shaft. If that dimension is the same then you should be OK to press out the u-joints from each shaft, take the 1.3 ends and fit them to the 1.0 shaft (with new u-joints of course).

Altenatively call a bearing shop and find out if the 1.0 and 1.3 u-joints have the same part number. I would imagine they should have all the dimensions on each as well.

And here's how

Here's a step through of how to change one. This is on an axle/stub assembly but it works the same for a driveshaft.

If you have a vice use it (in conjunction with the correct sized socket) as a press rather than a hammer, it makes things a little easier.

my jack shaft is 1.3 at the gearbox and 1.0 at the t-case...unis are the same size, just different outer dimensions, and 1.0 has inner clips and 1.3 has outer clips...I just removed half the 1.0 uni and replaced it with 1.3...mines is a 1.o litre zook with a 1.3 conversion...I think wt are same scenario, but cant be sure .....christover

ps...the 1.0 jack shaft is longer in total than the 1.3..but it only 15mm or so...christover

Yeah like the other guys said. Just change the flange at the U joint. Have done this recently
