hey... just wondering if a transfer case from a 4speed out of a fj55 will fit on the back of a 5speed from a 84 fj40? saves me pulling mine out before i put reduction gears in it.
cheers

well were do we start ,just went threw a simlar prob except on a bj 42 was told it was the best n easiest conversion from a 4x4 wrecker due to hand brake on the diff not the g box n not having to cut n move the cross member ,was told the 5 speed was out of a 42 wrong it was a 60 series box n my transfer adaptor plate from the forty was different had to buy 60 series adaptor plate or as they told me to leave the transfer support bearing out cause every body does it even tho i had explaind to the about fitting the rock crawler gears n i wasn't doing anything bodgy had to send one of the crawler gears back to marks adaptors to swap a 40 series gear to a 60 series gear to suit the seal housing in the 60 series adaptor plate if u re kit the bearings in the box u may have to buy extra bearings to suit n transfer make sure the tail shaft cut n lengthen n shorten the right ones even when correctly marked u may have to modify transfer lever n adjust g stick hole check the transfer n box total length to body n cross member n case of cross member adjustment the wrecker had said the petrol conversion was a nightmare as for the gears low range makes offroad work such a brease altho i was not aware that the 8%overdrive was on all gears wich is good n bad when towing otherwise well money spent but good luck n lots of patience ps before anyone winges about this this was my experince n yes it was'nt on a petrol forty i know n all depends on what job n result u want
