Hey peoples, just purchased a 95 Patrol 4.2 diesel DX, I should have got one ten years ago  . Any way it has the usual amount of what I describe as "DIESEL SHUDDER" when driving forward (when taking off, even noticed it in a Hilux I have driven) , but in reverse it makes a shudder all of the time when going up hill, even slite, and it is quit loud and annoying, does any one have any ideas on what might be causeing it???? Diff, gearbox, transfer etc?? :?

check your passenger side engine mount, if its a 95 model the mount would prolly be at the end of its life span. The rubber tears, but the motor is held fast in position by the design of the mount, and the noise you can hear is the safety catch built into the design. Replace it with a genuine mount, the aftermarket ones are too hard and will not last as long.

THNX Area54, regarding this Info, I had a quick looksee and it does look like the rubber is seperated from the metal, God I hope that is all it is CHEERS

Well I have replaced the engine mounts ( the old ones were starting to crack) but still my trusty noise is with me, it only happens when goin forward or reverse slowly, sounding like the transfer case, but why would it not make the noise once moving, I noticed it coming out of a corner also in third a bit slow for the gear???

Does it do it when HOT and engine idling? If so it "normal" clutchspring/mainshaft chatter..

Also the engine mounts have a safety wrap and rubber buffers on plate. These wear out and give noise.
Nissan used to (under warranty) grind more clearance around these parts as a small lift in engine under torque makes them hit. if they are old the rubber buffer is prob worn away and gives metal to metal clunk.

4 bolt mounts only.

I was thinking Thrust racer? Mine does the same, and is slowly getting louder.
