HJ75 front diff into a HZJ75 ute

Has anybody done this before?
I understand that the HJ had the same front diff as the rear, but the HZJ had the smaller hilux item. Is it worth swapping to get the larger front diff?
Are the knuckles/hubs/brakes/CV's the same? Are there any other complications with the swap?

From what I can tell, the HZJ75's(90-99?) have the same front and rear diff as the older HJ75's(84-90). It's only the newer HZJ79/8 model ute's and PC's have the smaller front hilux diff. The diff ratios are diffent too in the lastest bus. 4.1:1(41/10) and 4.3:1(43/10) in the newer HZJ's compared to the old 4.1111(37/9) diff's in the early HZJ's and the HJ75/60/47/45's.
I would take a guess and say nothing is interchangeable, easily. The HZJ/HDJ79 upgrade is quite significant even though they still look similar. (new TD engine, new gearbox, cab, LWB, coil front-end, interior etc etc)
Is there anything wrong with the hilux front diff. They are not a weak item.

What you wrote is correct in 1990 they went to the Hilux size 80 series Hi-pinion front diff centre the rest of the front end stuff is different . The C/V's (slightly bigger) swivels are different. The hubs, brakes, calipers etc are different but these parts will fit the earlier cruisers.

Thanks for the replies guys. I have already got an HJ75 with diff locks F&R. When I upgrade to a HZJ75 model I want to transfer all my accessories over including the diff locks over to the new ute.
I also like the idea of having similar F&R diff centres, to swap between if the need arises.
