Outer Limits 4x4 Board

I've read of some dudes using subaru calipers with integrated park brake mechanism for their rear disc conversion. I am trying to gather which model and years are the ones to use. And if it's the fronts or rears I need to get from the subaru. Can some one help me out? It will be to suit a 60 series FF rear end. Has anyone ran these on their truck yet? How has it worked out? Also, with these calipers, should one use the LC front discs or Hilux front discs or?

Any other suggestions are welcome as well as I haven't yet determined exactly what I will be using, but I don't want to run a t-case brake or line-locks so a caliper with park brake is a must. Also, don't want to run the chebby crap calipers wtih my setup. Perhaps there are some Nissan calipers or some other? If so, what disc to use to suit them?

Get the mid 80's Leone front calipers they have the hand brake as well. I used Mitsi Galant rears but the Subaru are bigger. Hilux solid front disks do the job.

Early fronts.

Mine are off the front of a 83 brumby

Then the handbrake lever off the calipor needs to be taken off and moved around 90 deg so that it pulls across the diff instead of towards the front of the car.

A tip to watch for is make shore the rotor and calipor are lined up spot on or the pads fall out once worn down a tad
another tip is, check that the handbrake cable doesn`t fowl on the springs when its on, cause then you`ll have no handbrake.

Also it is best to change the master cylinder over to one with an inch bore like an 80 series or a NEW hilux. With the 80 mc the brake lines come out on the drivers side which means you have to bend your lines around which isn`t hard you just have to be carefull not to kink them. With a mc off a new hilux they still have the brake lines coming out the passengers side and also have the inch bore so these SHOULD be a VERY simpal thing to do as it should just be a simpal unbolt and bolt in mod. But I haven`t used one of these I`m only saying what I have noticed with the new hilux one.

Don`t know about the 2003 mc, like I said I`m not 100% if it can be used at all, I just nkow my 93 hilux had a smaller bore in the mc and I had to up it to a 1 inch bore which the newer luxes have. But with a newer lux and changing to rear disks you might need a bore a bit over 1 inch. I`d just try it and then seehow it goes, at worst it`ll only make the brake pedal feel spongy.

I used front solid hilux rotors because they are the write width, dia for the calipors, don`t know what nissan have and I don`t want no stinken nissan parts on my toyota.

Does a rear disc conv need to be engineered?

And what else would you need apart from rotors, calipers, bigger MC and brake lines?

I'd assume you'd need a bracket to mount the calipers to the housing!

Has anyone got pictures & parts ;ist of their setup?

Yes rear disks need to be engineered, man you`re playing with your rigs breaks and other peoples lives, not to meantion your own if they aren`t correct, can`t believe anyone even had to ask that question
