Hey,
I just wanted to know people opinions on Range Rover gearboxes. I have no preference between manual and automatic gearbox. I have been quoted 1.5k for a good second hand zf auto and transfercase and also 1.5k to rebuild a lt95 four speed and more to ungrade it to army spec. The gearbox will be behind a holdne 308. Thanks

LT95 (4 speed) is strongest Rover box. LT77 (early 5 speed) is too weak - avoid. R380 is strong 5 speed.

LT95 has integral transfer case. LT77 & R380 both use LT230 transfer.

Behind the 308 I would go the ZF, with a LT230 tcase.

Full Zf and all parts required to install cost from $1250.00

LT230 cost from $200.00 up.

Bearings for LT230 aprox $250.00 (cheaper if you use Chinese ones)

The LT95 has th lowest 1st gear ratio around 4.?? - 1.
Lt77 and R380 are 3.32-1

Lt 77 box not recomended can get cheap, I destoyed my LT77 in 5weeks although the bearings were on way out.
R380 box from $1300.00 Know of one for sale 10K after rebuild swapped in a ZF.

Michael.
