Hi Guys
What do you use to remove the diff plugs. Its like it is a 1/2" square drive but that doesnt fit well. Feel like an idiot.
Cheers

1/2 inch drive socket bar works for me.
Kmart has a sale on idiots at the moment, you should be able to pick one up there quite easily..

They have a taper in the thread so dont over tighten them. They tend to seize when overtightened & when you strip the centre out of the plug they are a bugger to get out.
I only do mine up with the rachet as the breaker bar is much longer & too easy to get too much tension, this makes it easier next time.

Mine burred over allot. So I just put the breakerbar in (ok sorta lined it up) and wacked it with a hammer. But there was a 3/8 one on the front, buggered if I know how that got there. darn mechcanics.

You could get a small length of tube about 15mm long and just bigger in diameter than your drain hole and weld it over the hole to protect the plug a bit better. I've seen a few like this and it works fairly well.

On the protection subject.
I tack weld an old bearing outer ring around mine

How do you go about doing that? ie. drain oil first or weld then change oil? Or just weld and change oil the next time you remember

The section around the drain hole is fairly beefy, tack welding the ring on there would not create any problems with the oil, even fully welding the ring on using broken arc would be fine. The oil is designed to withstand reasonably high temps, so unless you fully weld the ring on with multiple fillet passes and glow the diff red hot...
