Swapping transfer cases???

Post by Nev62 »

What is the defining factor in swapping transfer cases between makes and models (aside from the location of the front pumpkin)? Surely the yoke type and drive shaft lengths don't count as drive shafts can be modified/made to suit.

Is it not possible to change input shafts to suit the gearbox being mated to???

Just curious :?

Normally would be done by using an flanged adapter and a Spud shaft

Spud is a short shaft with a female gearbox spline and a male transfer spline .,
The alternative would be to a aquire a two wheel drive version of your box and use a detached transfer case with apropiate outputs .
Whats the story ? Maybe there is somthing reasnaobly simple .

Nah, nuttin easy with the unwanted child of the 4wd world (B2600). A guy did one in the states but looks dogey http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/dualtcase.htm

The raider is getting 32" Tyres but the jump up from 28" is going to kill it.

Pressing the spud shaft together (even with a 50 ton press) was dogey to start with, no wonder it broke. Wish we could get t'fer cases at $300 here in Oz.

seeing as you seem determined to keep the car, what about doing a engine, g/box t/case from a hilux. They can be picked up for relatively cheap and should be a fairly straightforward swap. Opens a world of possibility

I've been keeping an eye on the auctions already :D

This may become a project for next year.
