Is that the norm for standard with no modifications. Or could he do some simple stuff to get more horsies or just get it dynoed.

2nd foot flat to the floor in his ute and it is very slow at picking up revs. He is only running 32's.

Mine is fine.....as soon as you give it a boot and the turbo starts spooling, then it revs freely....there is some initial lag in 1st low down but only for a short time, and is to be expected as the turbo is not boosting.

I also have a safari intercooler which helps along nicely on the hills highway driving.

try getting the fuel pump looked at and upping the boost a little.

I don't know of any good people up your way....there is a guy in sunny Cairns who does a good job, so if you are doing a trip up there in the near future then PM and I will get the detail.

Mate from down hee saw him on a cape trip, and got 20kw or so......berrima deisel charged $900.00 or so and didnt do much....this guy charged$300.00 and dynoed it as well...better than driving it up a big hill!!!!

Good luck...post who your mate uses and if they are godd or not

Getting more power from GU

You should give Chapmans at Cooroy a try ... they are probably 60 minutes from Caboolture. A lot of the guys from up this way go there. Speak to Robert Chapman (tell him Simo told you give him a try). They have a dyno etc ... most of the 3-400 hp Nissans up this way get tuned there so they know their stuff.

Cheers
Simo

PS. How the hell do you make these little emoticon things work?
PPS What the hell is bump supposed to mean?
PPPS. I am starting to show my age here I think .. lol

G'Day Simo,

Bump or BTT means bump to top....each post is veiwed on your screen from most recent post to oldest post so by adding a reply the post is "bumped" to the top of the list

Emoticons :) will come up you post as code only, and when you post the topic it will convert them, it is all part of HTML web code.... the same happens when you change font size coulor etc

Thanks Tiny ... yes I had forgotten about BTT ... anyway I am new here and the other forums I frequent haven't used those abbreviations so thanks for your explanation but I have yet to see how it works .. some members just reply with bump .. I guess that is an attempt to get back to the top of the list?.

I sent an email the other day and used the emoticon and they appeared in code however when I posted them ... the code was still there I recall ... it hadn't "morphed" into the emoticon and I thought I must have done something wrong.

Thanks again.
Cheers
Simo

hey mate u should find my post in regards in modifying my GU wagon i now have around 98kw at the rear wheels and in the wet can slide the gu around corners and in the try churp the rear tyres...

TOTAL cost $550 exhaust 3" no muffler
BOOST AND FUEL adjustments $385

well worth it

GU's arent gutless NISSAN bloody de-tune them to make the 3L more popular to hell with the 3L i say :D

hey mate you should give motson a call, check out their website here
Mate of mine had it done to his 2.8 patrol, got a few more ponies to the floor, now he cant be happier with the performance.
He drove a 4.2l TD and was about to buy one, but he decided against it when he drove one with the piggy back computer installed. you get around 30% more HP.

they say it has no effect on fuel economy, but rule of thumb is, if you want more power you need more juice.
However he has done some tests and is getting around 13-15L/100KM
my 2.8 doesnt have the system istalled yet and is getting around 14-16L/100KM

it all really depends how you drive it.

Also if you arnt real happy with a low milage TD42T. Weight till it gets some miles on it. They dont start to loosen up till they have 40 000km on the clock. Well atleast that is what some mate's have said (they had a GQ wagon for 13years and have had 2 GU utes in 3 yrs - may have been 15 though).

I noticed mine freeing up after about 40,00 kms.

hey look diesel are different to petrol motors if you make a diesel more powerful i.e. put more fuel in when tunning it doesnt mean your fuel economy goes to shit....

what it means is that you dont have to put your right boot into as much hence your not using as much fuel.

The problem with most diesel these days they're arent really tuned to their true capabilities i.e. the bloody 4.2 in the GU and GQ

i know a guy who has a GU ute and he has around or trying to get about 220km @ the rear wheels in his GU ute he' ll probably get it he has around 200kw at the rear wheels now..

GU's arent gutless they just arent tuned right well the 4.2's anyway

Get the pump timing checked.

No gutless here

3" Exhaust with mandrel at the turbo - no muffler.
Boost & Pump (even pump upgrade using Toyota parts - EE Gaads)
Big inlet air - piss the safari snorkel off and get 4" and hi-flow air box
Intercooling helps but only at big speed - can slow you down too.
Injectors done over
Get the mat out from under the pedal.

Can show you - 03 9705 6677.

Then you are ready to brake the back diff spinning 37's in 3rd gear hi range on dry bitumen ... Doh!

just a 3"mandrel bent exhaust from the back of the turbo will make a gear difference on hills and lowers the spool up from around 1800rpm to 1200 rpm.
:D
