Started on the project finally.
Plan is to sleeve and box the chassis rails with some 10 mm plate and run a box section between the two rails to allow some decent mounts for the rear bar, fuel tank, recovery points etc.
Any ideas or comments appreciated.

Cut the lot off, even the original tie down mounts. I'm making a bracket to hold the body mounts that will be bolted through and welded to the chassis

Finally had a chance to get something done today.
Boxed original chassis rails using 6mm plate,
Welded in new x-member ( 75x75x5mm )
Fitted recovery points
Got all the other brackets sorted out and ready for tomorrow so I can mount the bar, tank, body block mounts and everything else

Had a bit of trouble fitting the tank back in, but it got there eventually. Tight fit though 
The plates and bolts on top of the x-member are for the tube bar braces to mount on.
Ran out of time and still need to finish mounting the tank, put the body blocks back in, weld braces and mounts to tube bar, checkerplate gaps in bar, mount lights and re-wire whole back end.
Sounds like a good job for Australia day ( and drinking rumbo's )

Yep, each end has a drain hole and bung 
Spent a bit of time last year with Hammos 78 series and MadGQs patrol attached to it
Have got one of those equaliser straps to connect the two points together to spread the load. It also has two recovery hooks mounted on the front bar braces in case I need to go in that direction.
Once this is done, I'm going to mount eye bolts to the chassis rails at the CoG to allow for sideways recovery if required

I have a fair go at most things, and sooner or later myself or someone else is going to need some serious recovery ( if there's someone on this board who has never been stuck then they aren't wheeling it hard enough ). Its better to have it sorted out before you need it.
A few months ago I spent a bit of time on the wrong end of a winch cable half way up some rock steps using the dodgy factory points, and its something I won't do again.
When I go wheelin' with others now the rules are: no recovery points - no go !

Got them from my local engineering firm. We had a look through his catalogue and picked one that fitted the shackles. They are each rated to 4 something tonne.
They are bolted through one side of the x-member with a 6 mm plate welded on for some added strength. Locking nut is welded to the inside to make replacement easier.
