saw on discovery these landcruisers that were pimped up, big tyres 38's i think or maybe bigger, and they had spikes on them for gripping in the ice and long bar work out the front in case the drove into a crevass. They were setup to drive across antarctica.

Nothing to do with the above photo but it reminded me off that :D

I have always wanted to go to Iceland, if I do, I will try and contact someone with a 4WD and go play in the snow!

How good would that be....

Its 35C in Brisbane at the moment.

Obviously the cops are pretty harsh on rigs up there to. Look how this guy is donning a fake moustache to avoid being recognised. Very sneaky.

This is where the Mickey Thompson 80 series derived from.
It runs 39" as it's road tyres and 46" Claws as its offroad tyres.
The huge flares have an OE part number from Toyota in Iceland.
It's HUGE!!!

They come from the dealer with up to 44's on them over there..

Yeah, it came with 44's on it originally, but apparently it was a bit sucky sucky on fuel so they pegged it back to the 39's. They run all over the place in it... Brisbane - Adelaide - Melbourne - Sydney etc. for the shows.
Cheaper to run it on 39's.
The 46" go on it when it's going to Cruiser Park and stuff.

Do Nissan have OE flares that big available then?

At least they are trying to enclose the wheels, unlike the rigs I saw in USA where they think its cool to have the whole tyre (low profile) sticking out from the bodywork.

Being a Queenslander who want to drive in snowy conditions - would MTR's cut the mustard?
