It seems that the front drivers side drive shaft has come out. It is sitting about an inch out & wont engage when in 4WD. How do I get it back in ?
My 4WD is a 1983 Mitsubishi SWB Pajero.

Regards
Dan

ask guts about this, he seems to have a habit of fixing his front shaft before a 4wd trip under the pressure of an audience that builds up

Pete, I think he's talking about the CV/axle assembly.

Firstly I would remove your hub (either a manual or free wheeling version) and check if the circlip is still there. You can push it back in and there is a type of clip on the diff end to help lock in. The main thing that stops the axle wandering is the circlip on the outside of the wheel which rest against the back of the hub (once the hub is unbolted and removed can the circlip be removed).
If the outer circlip is still there then the other possibility is that one of the CV's has collapsed and the inner axle has sideways.
