Coils for a 60?

Has anyone seem this done? Or have any of you thought about doing it to your own 60?
I was thinking that a 5 link rear in a 60 would be pretty cool. There are a lot of SOA 60's, and coils may be a little different.
Has anyone done any research into how viable this would be to do?
Cheers
Aaron
can be done

I did this to my hj 47 ute. but i changed everything at once! I brought a rolling gq nissan chassis & used the diffs and cut all the nissan brackets off and welded them to my chassis. At the same time i put in a 5lt injected motor & nissan gq gearbox. I have made longer rear trailing arms & a frame for the rear. it Is possible to do this with std stuff. I have seen it done using all the brackets off a mange rover and looked very good. This is my personal opion that it could be done but i think that space around the links, coil mounts and diff pumpkin on the front drives side could be a problem thats what i thought on my ute any way. but another thing is that your diffs are 1.5" wider than my ute had.
hope it works out.

Been thinking about this one for quite a while myself, but using airbags so I can keep an even ride height with different loads. Even went so far as to get a few quotes as a drive-in drive out scenario. Prices varied from an acceptable 3Kish (with coils) to an absurd 6K. I thought of using an 80 series rear end with trailing arms and panhard rod which would probably be a fairly simple job.
The front was a bit more of a challenge because of the limited space between the tyre and chassis. Maybe possible to use coil overs ? but dont know about the engineering of those for street use, or how reliable they are for touring.
I dunno what happened, got real busy with work, had babies etc, and went a bit cold on the idea. I might do it one day when I've got a bit more time (and cash) to think about it.

I have thought about using the 80 series rear end also. As you say, it seems like it would be a fairly simple job to do the rear. Could you use an 80 series rear housing and put the 60 hubs and brakes back on it? The only reason I ask is so I maintain a similar track width, and I dont want to do the front yet.

That were my thoughts 2. There is bugger all room between the outside of the chassis rails and the wheels. A set of coils isn't going to fit on the outside. I haven't heard great things about coil overs for touring. So in the mean time, the rear seems like a go-er.

carts, you know the cheapest way to get coils under your 60 is to buy an 80.
damian what was included in $3k dorive in drive out? if it included all parts I think that's a bargain.

quote me if I'm wrong but I think I heard something about Rob from up at Jeep City in QLD prototyping a coil convo for the 60's about 6 months ago. I tried to email a few weeks ago but nothing back as yet. Should get off my a$$ and call.
Can someone tell me if I'm right there???

Hey, I'd be interested to hear/see the results of putting coils under a 60.
Front/rear or both.

Carts, quite clearly you know very little about this subject... the ul-te-met set up you want is a GQ 3link front and a "Stumpy" 4runner spring over on the rear. This surely would be the most cap-able setup known.

I'm about to convert the Middy to coils running 80 series diffs. I'll start a thread in the members when I get started if anyone's interested.

Calbah do a bolt on coil conversion for 40 and 75 series, but it is not cheap.

Is this just an add a coil kit(leaving existing leafs in??) or is it an actual full coil conversion????

Sorry mate, just saw this. Yes, all parts included di/do depending on shock type it could have gone up to around 3500

Its a full conversion useing a link set up on both ends and removeing the old leaf setup alltogher

that's pretty good - any idea on what linkages etc they were going to use, or was it all custom? I think if I was going to do it I'd try and use as many factory parts as possible to make spares/repairs as simple as they could be.

A couple of different options, factory or custom, but I think the price was custom links and panhard, can't remember now.
