Outer Limits 4x4 Board

I was discussing direct injection diesels with someone today. Anyone know what the first (mass produced) direct injection diesel car /passenger (light) 4x4 was?

I think the SIII Stage 1 - which came out in 1982 with a 3.9 ISUZU direct injection diesel has a pretty good chance of being the first - anyone know an earlier one?

I just found this here...

Back in 1986 Fiat Auto's Croma TDI became the world's first direct injection diesel-powered car.

Sure it was a car not a 4x4, but is was still 4-years after the first DI Land Rover.
