Outer Limits 4x4 Board

I used to use a socket and an extension but it was a PITA. Then i tried BeeBee's way which was fitting the Seal to the outer stub shaft of the CV and placing this backwards into the housing but this was also a hit and miss way.

Well today i went to bunnings and found that i could make a seal install tool out of some PVC adapters. The seal fits purfect over the end of the PVC and sits against the shoulder. Then just position it in the housing and give it a couple of light taps with a hammer and the seal is in perfectly.






I bought enough bits to make 5 of these. Im keeping one but will sell the others if people are interested. $20 each mailed anywhere in Aus. PM me if you are interested in one of these.

why not sell plans for it for 5 bucks and make a killing

I have one the same but made from metal tube, They work a treat soooo easy to fit

There are good enough pics up there. I dont think people need plans to work it out. Just go to a hardware or plumbing supplies with a seal in hand and you will find the parts to make these. And yes they can be made a lot cheaper than $20. Im not trying to make a living out of these. I actually only have 3 left now because i gave one to my old man as he needs to fit some inner axle seals in a cruiser this morning.

I need to replace the inner axle seal in the front of my 80 series and did a search and came up with this post of yours as well as a few others you have contributed to. You seem to know alto about this but I'll be doing it for the first time and really want to give it a go. The fitting tool you made up above how exactly does it make doing the fit easier. Do I still have to take the whole assembly appart ?
Your help would be much appreciated,

Yes the whole assembly does still need to be removed. This tool just helps you hold the seal in position when you push it in. Usually, like most seals when you go to push one side in, the other pops out and you end up chasing it back and forth. This is just supposed to make it a little easier.

Hoever, my tool broke the first time I used it anyway.....

I have a socket that is about the right size and I just put an extension in it the "wrong" way so the extension+socket assembly looks a lot like the above, but obviously in steel so a lot more robust.

if you have a wood lathe or access to one, turn one (or three) up out of decent hardwood, it will last a long time.

or if you had a metal lathe u could make one out of brass or what ever metal u had around
