GQ waterpump leak

Hi

A while ago my GQ 4.2 petrol started to lose water which looked to be from the bottom of the water pump.

Thought i would try the cheap option 1st and get a gasket and after ringing nissan found out they use a gasket in a tube. $39 from nissan. $5 from repco.

After finishing it looked great until a couple of drives later and at 3000rpm it starts to leak again. It is hard to see where it is leaking from but looks to be from the bottom of the water pump.

My question is, if the waterpump was on the way out would it start leaking like it is? Should I replace it?

Thanks for any ideas
Eric

I had one leaking on the thermostat housing where it bolts on to the head,
on binghams truck. There two gaskets and one o-ring, but if it is not laeking that high and its closer to the water pump, i'm not sure about nissan pumps, but most have drain hole at the bottom of the pump to see if the internal seal in the pump is shot. I'd try them first.

My daily driver wagon has done the same thing and is on LPG, so when the water level goes down the LPG convertor freezes up and NO GO.
I have a fix for this that is EZ.

INSTALL A CHEV :D :D ;)

Genuine nissan was $130 a few weeks ago mine went. Easy fix had it all done in around 2hrs and a good chance to clean your radiator too. Don't forget to buy coolant and gasket goo

Cool, did yours start leaking when it died?

Just looked at my receipt it was $123. Mine didn't die but was leaking out of the shaft which sounds exactly like what yours is doing. Just bought a new one as it is a non-servicable unit.
