Long ram hydraulic jack

Just wondering if anyone has used one of these jacks (off eBay) for offroading, recovery, changing tyres, repairs, etc.
I was thinking of getting a high-lift jack but have not read a lot of good stuff about them, this seems safer and easier (not for winching though)
Any advice?
3 to 8 tonne
Another interesting jack is this 20 tonne one, which may be operated by a compressor:

I've got access to some hydraulic rams that are fairly low weight. I was thinking of mounting them near the headboard of the tray, one on each side. You could lift the whole side of the truck up if needed. Has anyone done this before?

Damo is right, the top one is used in lifting applications like engine hoists & such. The bottom one is designed for hyraulic press applications. You could give it a go & try to use them for something else but they can be very heavy & bulky.
If you have any succsess keep us posted.

I might try one, they are rated to 8 tonnes so it should be fine for lifting and moving.
I will make up some plates out of steel and see how it goes.
From the ad for them:
"*ideal for use on hydraulic cranes, engine hoists, and a wide variety of applications for mechanics, truckers, farmers and off-road enthusiasts
*you can choice one capacity: 3 ton , or 5 ton , or 8 ton
*max.height:44"
*min.height:24"

I have used the 8 tonne version of this one on an engine crane. I think I payed around the $100 mark. It works a treat and I can also lift the front or rear end of my 80 series 2-3 foot off the ground for any suspension type work etc. From memory the cylinder is fairly heavy though!!!

Thats a great idea! hell of a lot more stable than a high lift jack.
