When I power my Garmin GPS unit from a cigarette lighter socket it sends a loud hum through the AM frequency.
Anyone know what can be used to suppress this interference ?
Thanks,Dave

Listen to FM!!! you may be able to get some kind of filter?. Check the earth return on the cigeretter lighter plug, but look at instaling a marine type plug somewhere else, as cigerette plugs use thin wire and tend to burn out (usually when you out bush and you need the GPS)

No FM in the outback !
It's not the wires at all, same problem from all 3 cig. lighter sockets.

I mate had disturbence through his speakes on a lux, and we found that the previous owner had been to cheap to by decent speaker wire, so ran 1 strand of 30amp wire for positive, then earthed the speakers on the body.... this was fine with cds and fm but there was noise from the speakers somtimes when the radio was on am

Apparently the noise was from the alternator, the frequecy of the noise got higher as the engine increased rpm

It may be some similar problem with the earth????

stick this in the power line to your radio... should filter out any audible interference..
