FJ40, 307 chev + power steering problem

Hi guys, any alternative solutions will be GREATLY appreiciated.

I have the 307 in, was in when I got it. But it didn't have power steering. Nowhere on the engine to mount a pump. Got hold of a chev guy, sold me new water pump, steer pump and assoiciated brackets.

Fitted the water pump and pulleys etc, then tried to fit power steer pump and the conversion kit + engine mount are right where that power steer pump should go.

Any suggestions?

Can you legally move engine mounts and get them engineered in NSW? Cause that is my option at the moment. Have to get the car engineered anyway so that might be the best bet? I have heard a rumour that Marks adapters make a conversioin kit (FJ40 +307 chev) that allows for the PSteer. Don't really want to fork out the $$ for another conversion.

Thoughts?

It sounds like the engine is front mounted ,not side mounted.
Are you allowed to weld to the chassis in your state?
If so you could make up new side mounts to support the engine and then remove the front mount and mount Pwr Stg

Have come across this in the past and i have adapted a Nissan GQ pump to the extra mounts on the RHS of the late model long water pump ( 2 mounting lugs tapped 3/8 unc ) The factory pump mount only really suits the GM chev pump. And being o 307 it will have no mounting holes on the front of the heads. The cars in which these engines were fitted and this engine could be of the late 60's early 70's vintage only had an alternator and no P/S, A/C, smog pumps etc etc, so no mountings were provided for.

Yes it is a front mount conversion.

Apparently I can weld the chassis, Marks adapters sell engine mounts only that can be welded or bolted onto the chassis, $180 though.

I went and got the water pump that allowed for the power steering pump and had the mounting point for it. But I do still need to overcome the alternator not having a support position on the head. Yes I believe the engine is of that vintage Wally. I have been told that I have the early heads, no allowance for any damn thing. I am going to make up a bracket that mounts to the exhaust manifold mounts so I should be able to make it look like a nearly standard chev set up.

What about changing the heads, Would be eaiser, no cert required and chev heads are a dime a dozen.

The early engines had Pwr Stg,they had a threaded boss on the front of the exhaust manifold for mounting things.

Need an engineers anyway, got to engineer, spring over, disc conv, steering box changes, engine (dude didin't have engineers cert when I bought it) etc etc. So that isn't my main concern.

The exhaust mount you are talking about is where my alternator was mounted.

I am thinking at the moment that it will be easier to do the engine mounts that to try and correctly align alternator and pwr str on manufactured brackets.
