Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Over christmas i'm putting some gear in my swb gq, one of which is an Icom pro400 uhf. Now i was gonna put it in the second din slot under the stereo but i'd have to buy a din adaptor kit which i'll have too wait for as icom are short on these. By chance it looks as though it will fit in the space where the ash tray goes..... i've just got to rig up a bracket of some sort to hold it...... does anyone know where to get the angled steel and brackets which can be cut easily???

I'v got my 400 pro in the din kit under the CD player. Looks like it was made for it! i'd wait or buy one online somewhere insted of hacking up the dash. There a heavy little radio and need air when you crank up the herbs on the things.

I was sceptical of the din kit when looking at it on the web, is it a sturdy mounting with brackets to hold the weight??? From what I saw it didn't look that good...

And my other question is the heat, How do you find having the cd player above the radio, heat wise that is...... ???

PS. see how I go..... as i reckon it would look pretty cool..... the radio is exactly the same size as the ashtray which unscrews from the dash..... the facia of the radio fits into the left over space exactly, its just a matter of contsructing a bracket which shouldn't be to hard as there is plenty of space behind this area and the frame for the dash is metal so I could bolt into it....[/quote]

I also wanted to do this. In the end I bought a GME DIN size and mounted it under my cd player. Heaps easier to install.

The din kit is made entirely from metal and is a perfect size to replace the pocket under the cd deck. Haven't found heat to be a problem when the radio is transmitting full ball. I have since turn the output power down to around 5/ 6 watts cause I installed a 100w PA in the boot and that's all the power it needs for the full 100w. The amp pulls 28.5 amps in transmit!
