I was after a general run down on both winches , is one better for heavy work or is the other better for lighter work.
Thanks Boxhead.

A low mount winch is usually requires less maintenance than the high mount but thats usually because of how they are used. The best thing about the high mount winch is that it is a bit quicker for comp use, has no break setup inside the drum(it's in the gearbox), it can be modified quite easily with lots of aftermarket goodies and mounted properly is easier to work on without removing the bar or needing small hands. The good thing about low mounts is the range of winch bars you can use, its more compact, has a greater range in sizes and most have a greater pulling capacity, remains quite protected under the bar which is great if you don't use it every day. If you want to sell your high mount I might know someone who's after one  :D

I agree!

Plus a high mount can handle a higher length of cable (150ft/46m)

10,000 low will outdo a high mount in some situations...

also if speed is such an issue, spend more on lockers, bigger more aggressive tires, lift kits etc that will get you further first.
