Vitara Wiring help

i'm going to install an alarm in my vit, (in hopes to protect it). a couple of things i'm a bit stuck on, is that a few of the connections require a negative switch, such as the car door open switch.

i'm not too sure, but is it the opposite to a normal positive switch? a pos switch is no current until you connect or press a switch. right?

but neg switch is .....

i just can't get my head around it.... its like, door open, interior light on, door close, light off. its like the circuit is completed when door is open, and i sound really dumb now.

can someone explain in a simple explanation?

Another thing, does the back door of soft top vits have a light switch as well? or will i have to add a switch in for the alarm? i guess its the same a a bonnet switch.

and anyone know if central locking is possible for the back door as well?

thanks.

I thought that negative and positive switching was to do with having the switch on the negative or positives side of what you're switching.
Don't take my word for it though. i might've just made myself look dunb too.

As for central locking for the back door my 92 jlx swb hard top has it. I think it's original. I've never seen a soft top door up close but would've thought they'd be pretty much the same.

Steve,

You may have difficulty with your back door as I think they may be a different set up to the push / pull type lock.

Wouldn't bother with the back door anyway, just use your key to get in.

Keep it simple.......... ;)

Negative switching has me buggered too ! I'm still trying to figure out what high beam pick up to use

Sikid,

Make sure you mount the alarm module way up under the dash outa harms way !

The f*ck wit that installed my alarm put it low down so once I took a bit of water on board I had the central locking going hell for leather well I'm trying to get out and attach a rope and then of cause the immobilizer packs a sh!t cutting out the engine miles from any were, Farkin Great !!!

My hard top has auto locking on the rear door but the missus soft top is manual. As for the wiring down load a manual from

http://www.suzukiinfo.com/vitara/vitara.html that should help ya.

Cheers Shane

thanks for the help.

i think i'll admit to failure with this one.

nothing seemed to work! i guess it could be my busted a$$ POS vit.

i made sure i knew where all the wires were to go, then double checked, and then mounted the module way up high (what a PITA that was).

disconnected the bat, and went ahead with all the connections.

all finished, i connect the bat up again, and all that works is the bloody central locking. its as if i spent a whole day trying to wire up a super sonic central locking system!

and i couldn't find the indicator wires up on the steering column either, anyone know what colours these are?

i think i might just rip it all out tomorrow! the alarm cost me $100, and central locking $20, but labour for it to be installed by a pro was nearly $300.

According to the manual I down loaded from the above :

L/H indicator is GRN/RED

R/H indicator is GRN/YEL

What program do you use to unzip the manual?

Andrew,

you'll need WinRAR to open it.
