 Hi folks. I offer a warm smile from hot and sticky Darwin. I have a neat 76 RR. For today I'm hoping someone can put me in touch with Gary Stewart who attended the Watagans Stae Forest trip. I saw the article in the Sept 04 4WD Monthly. Looked great. I saw Gary's RR stating it had a Chev conversion and am very interested.

Please help.

Plus how do I post a picture. [/img]

Yes there are a few rangies goin around now with chevs! i personally dont have experience with the conversion but there are deffinately things to think about like - radiator or radiator plumbing needs changing to meet up properly!
- The chev engine sump is not set up for the different angles and pressure changes so i believe this needs attention!

Some one with more experience should post to ya! I thought i would try and keep ya thread goin!

Also try checking out Marks 4x4 Adaptors Website! Email em and they will give ya some decent info!

Goodluck,

Steve ;)

Marks are certainly the go I think. They offer a conversion / adaptor plate with spigot and all bolts for the 4 or 5 speeds at $650 plus another $160 for engine mount plates to bolt straight onto RR. Sump needs to be rear drop. Radiator seems not to be a big problem as all in and out are the same sides. Baffles in the sump will be a good idea.

Stater motor is same side. So far the only thig that concerns me is which dizzy will fit (regaurds to room).

Still how do I place a picture for all to see.

My RR is a red two door with EFI 93 3.5 disco on gas. two inch body lift on std heavy duty springs. 35" M/T. The vehicle is sut up for recovery work at the hidden valley motor sports completex where our Mud Racing facility is.[/img]

A mate running a 6/71 blown 350 chev ina commodore 4x4 mud racer has given me 90% of a neat 262 chev small very small block. will still be a huge increase in power.

Big Steve thanks for the interest. It's obvious that I'm new to this computer chat deal and so far I haven't worked out how to put a picture on. If you canlet me know who to speak with about getting pics happening I will or E-Mail and I will send a couple.

Hey Rosco, hopefully you got my email the other day. I'll try & get some pics for you. I had no probs with the dizzy, its tight but the bodylift helps with clearance.

Thanks 350rangie and Britswed. Pics will always be great and speaking to someone directly is great so if I can call Gary direct he may spread some secrets.

I had a very informative conversation with a fuel injection programe wizard today who was visiting Darwin for work. He has done many conversions of various vehicles using early Delco computers (Commodore) to run a huge assortment of creatured. He states however that you need to use VN or VP computers as speed sensors are not required if not using auto and can be edited out.

We discussed the use of a TPI system from mid 80's with the Delco.

AS that big kev would say "I'M EXCITED."  :D

Will check emails 350rangie but don't know yet.

The 262 is the baby of a cast iron family.
Personally I would rather have a good 3.5 ,for the money spent you could improve your current setup or go 3.9.
However if you intend going 350 later it will set every thing up in readiness

Yeah J Top it is the baby of the Chev range. It helps when a mate is giving the motor to me and other than setting up a EFI system on it it will only cost me a gasket kit to finish putting together.

Add to that the calculated power figures using Dyno 2000 I can't argu with the chev. with EFI, mild cam and headers these are the projected figures.
203kw at 5500rpm / 135kw at 3500rpm
383Nm at 4000 rpm / 324Nm at 2000rpm.

Don't ask me why a little engine will produce so much grunt but a chev nut up here states its to do with its bore stroke combo. It has the samw stroke as a 350.

Set up in the future. I already have plans for a 400 chev its just going to cost me more to put together though, but 546Nm at 2000rpm.

The 267 has the 350 stroke I thought,3.48 inches ,with a 3.5 inch bore.
The 262 has about 3.625 bore with a shorter stoke,around 3 inches.
The 267 has a lot of valve shrouding with such a small bore.

Dont put a 400 in it, the siamese bores can give headaches you dont need. Stick with a 350, bit of head work, decent cam & exhaust & you'll be pretty happy with the results.

Chevy 262
Bore: 3.671"
Stroke: 3.1"
total volume 262.5ci

Straight from chev data. what ever that makes it I'm not sure the chev nuts gone away so I can't ask him.

It'll be a good start. I've heard of concerns before with the 400 siamese bore but a good gasket set normally fixes that. That project is still some time away.

Found three sets of TPI and assorted looms and computers here in Darwin. I get to sought through them in two weeks to work out what I need and to sought out a price.
