G'day all. Just have a few questions reguarding a few things on my truck, if any one could help with any info that would be great.

I have an 81 FJ40 and have been told it came into qld back in the day. It has some kind of emmission control system using some kind of air pump. When i bought the truck the belt to the air pump was not there and one of the hoses that connects to something looking like its going into the cylinders some how has rusted off at the connection. My question is, is this system necessary, will it decrease performance not hooked up like this, will it increase fuel consumpion. If its ok to not have it hooked up, could the air pump be reconfigured to be used as an onboard air compressor???

Im not too familir with this engine as i have only had the truck a few months but am keen to learn all i can, any info would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

u don't need it . all it dose is inject fresh air into the exhaust to dilute the exhaust gasses so it looks better to a greeny .
most people recond it uses less fuel after they have removed the crap.
most people just crimp off the air pipes in to the head .

thanx rock hopper, i might take off the hoses and block it off like you said. Do you or anyone else know if it could be made into an air compressor??
