Well the saga continues, couple a weeks ago I fixed a noise by replacing the two rear uni's this fixed the noise.
Now went four wheeling in Toolangi and on the way back i was getting a vibration @ around 80k onwards, but only when I was accelerating.
Sitting at about 110 backed of the peddle and no vibes.

I would start guessing,

umm output bearing on the gearbox,

input bearing on the diff

maybe bearings period through the transfer and gearbox?

Is there any tailshaft play at these main bearing?

Have any of the nuts come loose on the tailshaft?

Hope you sort it cheaply

If you pulled the shaft apart when you worked on it, then you may have put it bck together out of phase.

Easiest way to fix is look under someone elses and put yours back together the same way.

Or you could muck around with rephasing yourself by turning one spline at a time until the vibrations bugger off.

try unbolting it at the diff and rotating it 180degrees thats what my mechanic told me to do with my cortina when i was having weird viabrations and id replaced the diff a few weeks before worked a treat

and now with all this talk im gonna go do the same asap :)

that's the ticket, but just one end of the shaft and 'rotate' by pulling the shaft apart at the slipjoint and then turning 180 and slipping back together.

Or the unis are not phased properly and are trying to tear each other apart. Hence the look at someone elses car bit

I did mark everything I pulled apart to make sure it went back together the same way, but anythings possible, I will pull it out again and double check my scratch marks line up.

rip it off the car and take it to a driveshaft joint, i'd recommend the one i went to but it's on the other side of melbourne, and would involve me looking for their card.

they balanced mine and replaced a rooted uni for 45 bux... including parts (was cheaper than buying a new uni at the time)

phase is easy to tell, just make sure the two inside (closest to center of the shaft) U shaped bits are paralell...
