i was messing around with my engine, and noticed that the intercooler fan does not turn on. i reved the engine pretty hard to see if it only turns on when its hot enough but it didnt move.

I disconnected a cable going into the intercooler, and 5 seconds later it started up. When i connected it back up, it shut off.
Anyone know if this is normal?

where is the fuse for this fan? ive checked all over and cant find it.

sounds like it runs off a temp sensor on the ic itself.

see if you cant test that sensor with another, and or the resistance of it.

sounds like it is dodgy

I have heard too that they only turn on when they are hot, so i cut the wires rigged up my own circuit with a common spotlight relay , individual fuse folder and rocker switch using the accessories as the switch, i use when in low range or on the beach, the computer hasn't complained about it either.

Mine did the same. Fan worked fine when connected to 12V. There is a temp sensor on the front of the intercooler. This switches the fan on through the ECU. I toyed with disconnecting the fan and running through a switch on the dash but then I did a conversion.

man thanks guys.
i have now discovered due to the fan not operating, my turbo overheated and it seems that it has now ceased :(

mechanic coming on monday to check it out, but as an adverse effect it seems because there was so much heat on the engine that one or all of the iunjectors melted and may need new one

so warning to all with turbos, make sure ya fans are working :)

just to bring an old post up from the dead, if yopu simply unplug the connector of the Temp sensor mounted in the front of the intercooler (the one that can be seen just looking at it) the fan will run full time, i have had my old mans truck like this for about 6 months plus and there has been no dramas,
