Removing Spring Clamps?

How do you remove spring clamps and whats the reasoning of it? What does it help? how does it help?

It lets the leaves of the pack separate when the the suspension droops.
Removing the clamps is not a great idea as it can lead to more axle wrap and also the leaves moving sidways out of line of the rest of the pack.
What I have found works well is to either make some new clamps or flatten yours out if they are the folded over type and put a bolt and a spacer tube across the top. But make sure you leave about a 20mm gap between the bolt and the pack so the leaves can still separate a little and twist a bit without going all over the place.
