Buying a Feroza

I'm thinking of buying a Feroza for general use and occasional off road. What is the preferred model and what are particular things to check for?Would prefer manual but is the auto OK in case a good one appears?

G'day Peter, welcome. :)

You may or may not be aware of there being two different types of Feroza- the narrow track (badged Feroza) and the wide track (badged FerozaII). Both use the same engine and drivetrain and come in various trim specs, the only difference is the wider track from different suspension(giving more stability.)

The widetracks sell for more- so your budget may ultimately determine which one you opt for. All have the 1600cc 16 valve EFI HD-E engine (I'm assuming you're in Australia?) The first narrow tracks were sold in the late 1980's, with the widetrack introduced around 1992. Both types were sold in various models up until around the end of 1997 when the were replaced by the Terios!? :roll:

There are a large number of models in both variants with various differences including manual or power steering/ mirrors/ windows; velour or vinyl trim; door arm rests; removeable hard top or soft top; optional rear LSD; auto trans (very rare); rear window wiper; aircon; extra instrumentation etc. Have a look around some car yards and you'll quickly see there is a big difference between the bottom of the range and top in the interior options.

Have a look through the FAQ post at the top for thigs to watch out for when buying. ;) Rust shouldn't be a big problem in the body panels as a most of them are galvanised standard from the factory.

If you intend on getting into 4wdriving and eventually modify your vehicle to improve it ,then a Feroza is not for you.

If you just want something as a daily driver and the odd camping and fishing trips and light 4wdriving then go for it!

not always true rod... if he plans on modding the feroza. then he should be aware of costs.... and if hes willing to do it.. then go for it! they have HUGE potiental to become BEASTS! if he wants to go cheap and be like everyone else... then no a feroza wont work. lol.

Out of the small 4WD's they are one of the better choices- it would be hard to find something built more solidly. Storage space in the back is limited (or non existent!), but things like roof racks and luggage pods help in that area.

Serious aftermarket parts (eg. diff locks, different gearing, snorkels) aren't available off the shelf like they are for something like a Vitara.

after having company car for many years i changed jobs and found my self de-horsed, so deciding on a little soft offroader as a second car i decided on a feroza as there pretty stylish and have some major feature over like a suzuki sierra like fuel injection 1.6 lt over 1.3 carby and the rear seat has 3 point seat belt vs a lap sash.

I found a 1992 Spv soft top for 5k with 160000 ( Owed by a little old lady who drove to church on sunday) which suits me perfect as i go surfing, spot lighting and cruising around plus use it to get work its resonably cheap to run but its has some nasty charactoristics that occur with any swb vehicle like never stand on the brakes at speed cause it gets ugly real fast.

other than that i love it . i was lucky i also picked up a complete hard top for 500 bucks cause it gets fargin cold in bega in winter ,all i need now is some better seats as the bloody spv vinyl seats are shiite so if any of you feroza guys have a set of seats from a late model in velour you want to dispose of email us at shiitebox@internode.on.net

Hey,

I am thinking of selling my fez... Working all weekend every weekend doesn't leave much time to get the full use out of the car.

If you are interested my fez has:

2 inch suspension lift
2.5 inch body lift
extractors and exhaust
window tint
brand new 31/10.5 Procomp Xterrains on new 15X7's
all the power options
CD

it is a 94 SXII.
