Outer Limits 4x4 Board

hey guys
went out to this new 4wd park out near warwick bout 150k's past ipswich inland today. it was ok however the tracks could be reclassified. they state on some tracks diff locks required but i did them with my open center diffs.
anyway my gq wagon seems to have bent a trailing arm...although they look quite solid and i dont rember any big impacts on the car throughout the trip i seem to have bent and creases the real left lower trailing arm on a good 45 degree angle. are these trailing arms known for weakness or have i just encountered some bad luck.
also dose anyone have any rough ideas on what adjustable rear upper and lower control arms are worth and could they reccomend a supplier in qld

how long have you been offroading the Patrol, if its more than a month, you have been extreemly lucky, i ben mine 2 weeks after purchase,

i now have the 3rds lower arms, they say they are bomb proof but i havnt tried to blow them up yet, but they seem to hold up well to the rocky landscapes.

ive had the patrol a few months and its seem quite a fair bit of off road and some nasty hills. its only got 2 inch body and 3 inch coil and shock lift. it flexs reasonably well as it has no swaybars.
would raised suspension and the extra wheel travel put excessive strain on the arms perhaps?

bend your arm back straight again then weld some L shape steel(like star picket sorta stuff) on to the lower side of the arm for re enforcing.

well at least its an easy fix and id be back on the road by next weekend.....although its easy still seems dodgey
plus it creased the arm so im sure it would bend again and 10 times easier at that if it didnt break

if it has creased the arm, i would definatly be looking at replacing it, replacement lowers arnt that badly priced, ring around......

I dont think there is any need for adjusable uppers, or even heavy duty ones. Never heard of anybody bending them.

But lowers and the panhard rod on the rear I have bent both numoerous times. I sleved the panhard rod with pipe. And brought heavy duty ones 2nd hand off Cheezy (the trailing arms are actually Mal Leslie ones) and theyhad a hard live before I got them and no problems since.

I personally think you would be far better off getting non adjustable lowers (get em made a little longer if needed) and adjustable uppers.

I agree that the uppers certainly don't need to be super big. the lowers however need to be beef and when you have adjustable ones I think it introduces a week point and also no longer a smooth surface to slide over things.

Are GU arms the same as GQ or heavier duty. i go 4bing with GU and GQ patrols and have not heard of this before BTW most of them have 4 , 5 , 6 inch lifts.

Same tube, just some NVH changes.

I've heard of the uppers bending on the fuel tanks. Know of a couple of people with this problem but not sure if they have aftermarket tanks...

Tops "may" bend if AUX tank has not got a cut out for arms. OR if susp droop more than cut out can handle, Mod tank.

When I was greasing my rear tailshaft yesterday I noticed pretty significant scratches in my Cheezy HD lower arms where I must have given them a workout last time I was at Menai. Given the scratches I reckon the factory arms would have definitely bent and I would have been up the creek...

For what it's worth, just buy after market (non-adjustable) lower arms. They are worth every cent.

Dad's has this problem, decent bent too, we haven't got around to getting the tank notched and the arms replaced yet.

Stronger Arms available from Mal Leslie or Cheezy.
